The Addictions Coach: How Do We Make “Good Decisions” For Our Clients?

FBI raids Good Decisions Sober Living. How are we to know which sober living facilities are a SCAM and a rip off? Florida is again in the news for a FBI raid and Rip Off Report complaint for a sober living facility that is drug testing its clients 4x a week and billing and over billing insurance. When clients call me and ask for an approved sober living facility for their loved one, how are we as clinicians and therapists supposed to know what places are approved? Cali Estes reports below:

FBI raids sober living condos in West Palm Beach

By John Dzenitis

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —FBI agents and state fraud police raided Good Decisions Sober Living on Georgia Avenue as part of an insurance fraud investigation.

Good Decisions Sober Living is a condominium complex where recovering alcoholics and drugs addicts pay rent to live, get drug tested, and receive outpatient care.

Residents told WPBF 25 News that investigators rounded up all of the employees and seized workers’ phones, laptops, tablets and boxes of documents from the facility’s office.

The Florida Association of Recovery Residences, which is watchdog of sober homes in the state, assisted in the investigation.

The association said Good Decisions was gaming the system by taking kickbacks and overcharging insurance companies for poor quality services and care.

“Good Decisions was one of the worst abusers in Florida,” John Lehman of FARR told WPBF 25 News reporter John Dzenitis.
