I am sure that we all love a feel-good story, right? Well, if we have any shred of decency in our soul, then we love to hear about people getting a second chance after they completely messed up their professional and personal lives through using drugs, alcohol or any basic addiction. And this couldn’t be any more fitting than with the story of ex Miami Dolphins Coach, Chris Foerster.
For those of you unaware of the story, Chris Foerster was the Offensive Line Coach for the Miami Dolphins in 2017. Being completely impaired and under the influence of cocaine, Mr. Foerster videoed himself snorting cocaine and asking a female acquaintance to join him by letting him snort more cocaine off of her backside! This FaceTime video fell into the hands of his employer, the Miami Dolphins, and it blew up all over social media. In the video he seems to mock his employer by stating that he was “about to go into a meeting with coaches and players”. This angered the league and the Miami Dolphins, and Chris Foerster ended up losing his high six-figure job over his addiction.
For a lot of people, this is where the story and the addiction would begin to head in a complete downward spiral while his proverbial wheels would begin to come off his entire life. But not for Chris Foerster. Chris began to reach out immediately upon his firing to get the help of a nationally certified professional recovery coach and he began taking the steps that the league placed in front of him to not only regain his employment, but his integrity and sobriety.
Chris was turned down from many different teams that wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. He excepted that and moved on and kept searching for an opportunity, no matter how big or how small, so that he could begin rebuilding his professional career that had been taken from him due to his poor decision making skills. After being turned down by many NFL teams, the San Francisco 49ers and their coaching staff, agreed to give Chris Foerster his second chance.
He not only repaid them being a great hire by staying sober and being professional, but he helped get the San Francisco 49ers back to the Super Bowl. Yes, in less than two calendar years, Chris Foerster went from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs and has been able to remain clean and sober to this day.
This is a prime example of someone who came so close to losing it all but was able to reach out and ask for help from a nationally certified professional recovery coach and then do the groundwork that was laid in front of him to get clean and sober and stay clean and sober.
