How to Get Back on Track When you Overeat at the Holidays
When it comes to my gut being even jollier than I am, Santa’s got nothing on me. I’m not sure what it is, but typically when I eat, especially with other people around, I try not to look like a bigger pig than I really want to be; But at the holidays, it’s different. It’s like I’m “allowed” to pig out because that’s the point, right? Plate number 3 stacked higher than 1 and 2, haven’t even made it to dessert yet, but trust me, I’m not skipping dessert. You may be able to relate. And let’s face it, we’re probably going to just have to give in and stuff our faces on Xmas so we can make a New Year’s Resolution to “get healthy” just so we don’t feel so guilty in the moment. So, what are some ways we can get back on track with our physical and mental health after the holidays? Let’s talk about it.
- Kicking the addiction:
Food and sugar are often the most overlooked addictions, rarely discussed and definitely not treated. A food addiction is not an Eating Disorder, it is a chemical and emotional immune response to some foods. Ever notice how you will binge eat an entire bag of Oreos or chips, but not a big bag of broccoli? This is perhaps one of the biggest reasons we overeat in general, especially on holidays. A Food Addictions Coach can help you understand more about the foods you can’t get enough of that are bad for you, and healthier alternatives.
- Having an accountability partner:
Dr. Cali Estes and her team understand Food Addictions and there many variations. In fact, Cali battled a food addiction for a number of years before learning to combat her own demons. Along with her sister, Nutritional Therapist, Jenny Fontana, together they will help you with the 4-tier approach. We tackle the emotional, mental, physical and the chemical sides of food addiction so that you FEEL better, LOOK better and solve the root cause of your issues quickly.
- Recognizing the problem:
How do I know if I am a food addict? If you crave sweets, carbs, and other processed foods and eat when you are not even hungry, but emotional (sad, happy, angry, bored, etc.), you maybe addicted to food. Also, if you use it as a reward system, a punishment system or even ‘eat your feelings’, you may have a problem and need a professional evaluation for food addiction.
