The Missing Link

The Missing Link

Ask the Exert: “Why does it seem that the kids of famous people are constantly in the news for murder, drugs, mayhem, domestic violence and all these issues?  Shouldn’t the privileged have some sort of team that keeps these kids in line?” Jennifer H., Palm Beach, Florida

Cali Estes, The Addictions Coach Says: “Recently John Elway’s son was arrested on a domestic battery and Peter Rodger’s son went on a murder spree, so I am assuming that you mean these two in particular.  We have to take into account a few things.  One is privilege, of course, and access to money, cars, guns etc. that the ‘average’ person may not have. We also need to consider any mental health issues that are plaguing the person in particular.  The actual issue here with the privileged, is lack of people saying no.  It stems back to childhood and being able to receive anything they wanted. Devastating things then happen when they are told no, as in the case of Elliot Rodgers.  His frustration lies with women saying no and not wanting him.  Children of people in the public eye need to be validated and their self esteem and self worth is completely based on who likes what they do and how they are perceived by others.

Teaching their children that wealth is not tied to worth is the missing link.  At The Addictions Coach we see a lot of children of the privileged, celebs and even wealthy inner circles.  We have to break into the self-esteem and self-worth tied to wealth cycle.  You can contact us at 1.800.706.0318 for more information or find us at www.theaddictionscoach.com
