Who got banned: Ryan Braun
Who did the banning: Major League Baseball
Why: MLB has been trying to ban Braun for two years. In 2011, the Milwaukee Brewers slugger tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs but successfully fought any penalties by arguing that his urine sample hadn’t been handled properly. But this week, Braun agreed to MLB’s proposal that he sit out the rest of the Brewers’ remaining 65 games without pay, costing him roughly $3 million. Braun’s suspension comes as a result of his involvement in what’s now known as the Biogenesis scandal, named after the Florida clinic accused of distributing steroids to up to 20 baseball players, including Alex Rodriguez.
