Let’s Set This Scene:
JFK Airport, April 1st-
Officers’ see a man “walking awkwardly” through the terminal and looking nervous. The customs officers decide to investigate further and take him to a private room. What they find is almost two pounds of heroin hidden in his underwear!
Bernard Charles from Trinidad was arrested after authorities said he tried to smuggle drugs into the U.S. by hiding nearly two pounds of heroin in his underwear. Authorities said he was acting nervously while his bags were being inspected by Customs officers after arriving at JFK on a flight from Trinidad.
He was then taken to a private search room where Customs officers found two, clear packages in Charles’ groin area, authorities said. The packages contained a brown paste-like substance that tested positive for heroin, authorities said. In all, 1.79 pounds of heroin was seized, which has an approximate street value of more than $70,000, authorities said. Charles was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations and faces federal narcotics smuggling charges.
But this isn’t the first flight from Trinidad to bring illegal drugs into the country. Just a couple weeks before, another passenger on a flight from Trinidad was arrested for allegedly smuggling cocaine inside packets of frozen meat.
