Why does NA and AA not work?
Well, where do we start? Let’s start by saying that Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous has helped many people and saved lives. However, as times change some of NA and AA’s theories and practices seem outdated to many. And what about those who don’t believe in God or a ” Higher Power” but need a good successful program to help them extinguish their cycle of addiction? Where do they turn? In today’s world addiction needs to be handled on a case by case basis. What might work for me may not work for you! Some addictions may qualify for harm reduction methods to get a person clean and sober and this type of treatment is considered “pure blasphemy” in NA and AA circles. So, in my opinion, NA and AA has zero flexibility. Its “their way or the highway” and in the recovery community and addictions industry there is “more than one way to skin a cat”.
